The Scientific Committee of the FELASA 2027 Congress, on the theme “Innovation, Ethics, and the 3Rs in a Changing World,” is currently reviewing all submitted proposals for the scientific programme.
Notifications of the review outcomes will be sent in early autumn 2026.
Amid rapid scientific and societal change, laboratory animal science stands at an important crossroad. At this juncture, the FELASA 2027 Congress, with its strong focus on innovation, ethics, and the 3Rs, aims to strengthen and further advance collaborative efforts in sustainable, responsible, humane, and transparent research. By bringing together the entire laboratory animal science community, the Congress seeks to address current challenges and foster forward‑looking, sustainable practices through the exchange of ideas, lectures, and workshops.
The Scientific Committee of the FELASA 2027 Congress, on the topic “Innovation, Ethics, and the 3Rs in a Changing World – Innovate. Integrate. Elevate” welcomes proposals for scientific sessions and workshops.
Programme highlights will include
This edition will feature dedicated sessions, including:
– 180‑second presentations for researchers, animal technicians/technologists, and other laboratory animal science professionals, focused on sharing practical experience from everyday work with animals:
- “In 180 Seconds – My Innovation in Animal Research”
features a brief, real‑world example of the development or implementation of new technologies in laboratory animal science. - “In 180 Seconds – My Not‑So‑Good Idea”
showcases how an idea that seemed promising turned out to be a failure—an opportunity to learn from mistakes and share valuable experience. - “In 180 Seconds – My Culture of Care in Practice”
highlights how animal technicians, researchers, and other professionals actively contribute to a positive Culture of Care through their daily practices.
-Sessions and workshops dedicated to animal caretakers and technicians
-A new Mentor session (details to follow).

Session & Workshop Proposals
Session and workshop definition A session is primarily for sharing information and experience. It usually consists of short presentations delivered to an audience, with limited interaction, and is designed to showcase ideas, examples of practice, or innovation across roles. A workshop is primarily focusing on active learning. It is interactive, involves discussion or hands‑on activities, and is designed to build skills, reflect on practice, or work collaboratively on real problems.

Session Proposal
All sessions will have a duration of 90 minutes (including discussion and transitions).
To submit a session proposal, please include the following information:
- Session title – clear, self-explanatory, concise, and engaging
- Preferred stream among the five streams defined
- Session description outlining the objective, how the session talks fit together, the proposed speaker(s), and the target audience
- Keywords (maximum of 5, selected from a predefined list) – These keywords will be used by the Scientific Committee to organize the congress program
- Session Chair, including contact details (institution, city, country, phone, and email address) – the co-chair will be a member of the Scientific Committee (SC), Organising Committee (OC), or the FELASA Board of Management (BoM). He/She will be assigned later
- Speakers: a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 speakers, including the tentative presentation titles and contact details (institution, city, country and email address). Each presentation should be between 10 and 30 minutes in length; however, the SC may adjust presentation timing to fit the 90 minutes length and including sufficient time for questions).
- You have the possibility to indicate for each speaker whether : Early Career Researcher/PhD student – Technician – First-time speaker at a FELASA Congress

- By submitting a session proposal, the session chair acknowledges that the Scientific Committee reserves the right to modify the final composition of the session. Even if the proposed session is complete, the Scientific Committee may suggest restructure (addition, removal or relocation of talks) of the session. Conversely, if the session is incomplete, the Scientific Committee will recommend additional presentations selected from the call for abstracts. The session chair agrees to accept and integrate these proposed presentations into the final session program.
- Session proposals will be evaluated by the SC anonymously; therefore, no names (including associations) should be included in the session description text.
- A check box will allow you to indicate whether the session includes early career researcher and/or technicians and/or first-time speaker at FELASA
Workshop proposals
All workshops will have a duration of 90 minutes.
To submit a workshop proposal, please include the following information:
- Workshop title – clear, self-explanatory and attention-grabbing
- Preferred stream among the five streams defined
- Workshop description including the objective, how the workshop activities fit together, the target audience, and the minimum and maximum number of participants
- Keywords (maximum of 5, selected from a predefined list) – These keywords will be used by the Scientific Committee to organize the congress program
- It will be possible to indicate whether the workshop could be repeated
- Chair and Co-chair including full contact details (institution, city, country, phone, and email address)
- Speakers, including tentative presentation titles and full contact details (institution, city, country, and email address), the system allows to upload a maximum of 8 speakers

- Workshop meeting rooms will be equipped with screen, projector, laptop, sound system, and one flipchart.
- The following room set-ups will be available. Proposers will be invited to indicate their preference.
- Theatre style – up to 80 participants
- Cabaret – up to 50 participants
- Workshop organization should be adapted to the selected meeting room and the provided equipment.
- Workshop participants will be required to register in advance.
- Please indicate whether the workshop can be repeated.
Funds for sessions and workshops
- One complimentary registration to the full congress is provided per session and workshop.
- Travel reimbursement of up to 600 € is available per session or workshop to cover one night of accommodation and travel expenses (economy class). This amount:
- cannot be split among speakers
- will be reimbursed after the congress, upon submission of original receipts
- will be paid to one designated speaker.
- Congress Evening tickets are not included.
Benefits may only be granted to speakers or to chairs and co-chairs who are also speakers within the session or workshop.

Important information for chairs of sessions and workshops
- Selected sessions and workshops may be recorded and made available on FELASA platforms. Chairs may be contacted at a later stage to provide six questions for a test at the end of the webinar for participants to obtain a CPD certificate.
- Once proposals have been reviewed, the Scientific Committee reserves the right to combine sessions and/or single presentations from different submissions (see disclaimer above).
